Cassiopeia’s story by Mateusz, SP 9 Dzierżoniów

Cassiopeia was a very vain queen. She thought that she and her daughter Andromeda were more beautiful than the sea nymphs, and they brag about it. When the sea nymph complained to Poseidon, the god of the sea, he sent a monster named Cetus to her kingdom. When Cetus appeared, everyone’s heart sank. Cetus was a huge sea snake. It had a blue skin colour, two huge venom teeth, red shiny eyes, a horn at the end of the tail and a large collar covered with a husk around the neck, which changed colours under the influence of emotions.
When Cetus stood by Queen Cassiopeia, he said these words:
- Cassiopeia! Poseidon sends me. Water nymphs complained to my Lord that you insulted everyone, you do not respect anyone, you humiliate and you are terribly vain. You’ve been reprimanded three times. Now you have to face the consequences. Take your daughter, change clothes that my Lord gives you. Download the crown and all the jewels. Dress up this old, torn dress, put on this hat. Dress your daughter the same here, there are things for her. Once you’re dressed up, go to the sea and clean the beach and the bottom of the sea. When you do, you have to go to a nearby village and help all fishermen to fix the net. When you do all these works, stand on the edge of the sea and light a fire. Then I’ll know you’re done. I will come and check everything. You have a week for it.
When he said this, he disappeared in the deep sea. Cassiopeia understood what he told her to do, she did not agree. She went to the largest palace room, told the servants to bring four huge mirrors and 20 trunks with dresses, hats and jewelry. When all the accessories were in the room, she called her daughter and four maidservants and began trying on dresses, jewels and hats. Cassiopeia and Andromeda so forgotten in tuning and praising themselves that they did not notice that a week had passed. When the twelve o’clock had elapsed in the room, the mirrors were broken, a gust of wind came through the windows.
Suddenly Cetus appeared in the middle of the room.
- I welcome you, Cassiopeia and Andromeda. I see you have a great time. Have you done the work commissioned by my Mr. Poseidon? Answer honestly. -
Cassiopeia went to Cetus and gave him a contemptuous look. Listen to a miserable worm, I’m beautiful, smart, powerful and rich. My hands will never stain with work. The same applies to my daughter. Come back from where you came and tell your Lord that I will never undertake any work.
When Cetus heard these words he laughed slyly and said:
- Let it be so, but you will regret it.
When he spoke the words in the room a flash came and Cetus disappeared.
When the monster disappeared, Cassiopeia smiled and said to her daughter:
- You see, this is the way to treat anyone who tries to force us to work. Remember that.
Cassiopeia sat down and called her maidservants.
When the women arrived in the room, another flash came again, and this time Poseidon and Cetus appeared. Cassiopaeia and Andromeda faced with severe eyes, then he said these words:
- I greet you vainly queen. I gave you a chance to understand your mistake and improve yourself. Unfortunately, you did not take the opportunity. From today, until the end of the world, you will travel with your daughter in the northern sky and help navigate seafarers sailing the seas and oceans. When Poseidon uttered these words, a great whirlpool appeared in the chamber that placed Cassiopeia and Andromeda in the northern sky. From now on, both help seafarers and sailors navigate.
